Here is a breakdown of both soulless pacifist endings. On the other hand, the soulless pacifist ending with Chara is dark and never revealed to be just a means to scare the player. With both pranks, it is explicitly revealed to have just been pranks by these characters – Sans laughs and introduces himself, and Asriel clarifies that there is still the Special Thanks to view. It doesn’t resonate well with any other prank done in game, such as Sans’ first appearance or Asriel’s sudden reappearance at the end of the game. This is the reason player choice is much more limited in deltarune, it is meant to more closely mirror real life. There is no proof that Chara’s intention is just to scare the player. Whereas UNDERTALE is specifically about videogames. Deltarune is also not specifically about videogames, but any games or bonding experiences. How games can help build relationships, friendships, and how these relationships have an effect on us and those we've bonded with. Whereas, deltarune seems to be about connecting with people through playing games. Both Flowey and post-genocide Chara are representations of that moral disconnection, and by us continuing to play games that way after UNDERTALE, Chara in a sense is our partner that is always with us. It's an RPG where the player is rewarded for sticking to the moral narrative, and punished for experimenting beyond moral boundaries. ![]() This is because UNDERTALE is really about the disconnect between player action and narrative morality that comes with player choice and lack of consequence, as well as how typical RPGs promote this disconnection with their leveling mechanics and stats. It should also be known that when post-genocide Chara talks of moving on to the next world, this is more meta-narrative commentary on the way we play games in general, and it refers to any game, not to deltarune specifically. Everything we know of their actual personality told to us by other characters, points to them being the same as Chara, even to their specific obsession with chocolate. It is not post-genocide UNDERTALE Chara taking control of them. What we see in deltarune's chapter 1 demo ending is Kris removing us (the red soul) from them as they understandably did not like us possessing and controlling them. Kris in deltarune is the adopted human child of the Dreemurr family, and Asriel is their brother.Ĭhara in UNDERTALE is the adopted human child of the Dreemurr family, and Asriel is their brother. Each and every outcome has equal importance. Obviously nothing has been confirmed, but my personal opinion is that there is no canon ending to Undertale. Deep lore, massive replay value, and mechanics that nobody else would be brave enough to add. I guess that way of telling the story is why the game is so good and has such a cult following. But this game breaks that mold by making the Genocide Route be the true ending. Most games make the GOOD ending be the canon ending. So this means Genocide is the TRUE ending, with the next character "Kris" being the fusion form of both "Chara" and "Frisk". All of this together means that for the story to continue, the user must sell their could to Chara, in order for the events of the next story to occur. It is also true that an unused sprite in UNDERTALE is that of Kris which can be viewed in the mirror in debug mode. Just as the creator said, UNDERTALE and deltarune are not connected as a "Sequel" or "Prequel" and are separate stories, which further supports this as they would be adventuring in another world. It was also said that they would destroy the world and move on to the next. This means that, no matter what route is taken in the second game, the Genocide Route is the canon base of the game, insinuating that you must sell your soul to Chara which appears to be referenced by the ending of deltarune. And according to that, to replay the game a second time after the Genocide Route, the character must "Sell their soul" to Chara to allow them another playthrough. ![]() This seems to be a call-back to the genocide route that ends with the player meeting Chara before erasing the world. ![]() The character can be nice, but as the ending shows, the player was basically only controlling the soul, not the character (Or so it's hinted) as Kris rips the soul out and cages it, threatening it menacingly. However, the shirt is green like that of Chara at the end of UNDERTALE. In deltarune, the main character "Kris" is basically the child of Toriel, a good friend of Asriel, and also wears a striped shirt. But I was just thinking about the whole wackiness at the end of UNDERTALE, along with the way the story plays out (especially the ending) of deltarune. To be honest, I have never played either Undertale or Deltarune (Having only watched it via youtube), though I may perhaps purchase it sometime in the future as it looks hella fun.
